My Design Approach:

This lowboy has beautiful walnut veneer, I would embrace that and design around this feature. Strip the piece of its existing orange finish, restain to suit the colour palette and work with embellishments to add drama and modernise the piece.

I would either change the hardware if a fusion era piece is what you are after if not I would keep the vintage pulls.

This is the perfect piece to blissfully restore yet add modern features, blending effortlessly to create a curated designed aesthetic.
